The Afro-Polis city
Immersive Art installation, 2015
The Afro-Polis City is part of an ongoing research on African cities as places of spiritual, cultural and social rebirth.
The installation was introduced during the 2015 Vitra Campus Summer Party, during Art Basel. It consisted of a geometric arrangement of cubic cakes against a backdrop of imagery relating to an imaginary garden of Eden.
Pierre-Christophe Gam collaborated with chef Rudy Lainé to create the sugary edibles, using African products like hibiscus, tamarind, chocolate, mango and guava. Alongside the installation, Pierre-Christophe Gam curated the entire 4000 + guests event as an immersive experience, overseeing the scenography, gastronomy, live performance and dj set.
